Design of three-phase induction motor is very tedious task. The art of design lies in suitable and economic distribution of space to iron, copper, insulation, stator diameter, rotor dimensions, windings and air-gap in the machine. Basically the design of electric motor involves the study of the voltages Designing of Three Phase Squirrel CageFile Size: KB.   N2 = 1 (squirrel cage rotor, so 1 turn per phase says the book, without too much explanation). One thing I don´t see: say rotor with 20 bars and 2 poles. So m2= 10 phases.

The two most common types of winding are the squirrel cage rotor and the wound rotor (using copper windings). The squirrel cage rotor will be discussed in a later section of the experiment. In the wound rotor, three sets of windings are set in the slots of the core material. Each winding is brought out to a slip ring on the shaft of the rotor. The rotor winding via slip rings and brushes is connected to a DC power source, and the stator windings are directly connected to a three phase AC power source Not only can a synchronous motor drive a load with greater efficiency than an induction motor, a fringe benefit of the synchronous motor is the ability for power factor correction.

An induction motor or asynchronous motor is an AC electric motor in which the electric current in the rotor needed to produce torque is obtained by electromagnetic induction from the magnetic field of the stator winding. An induction motor can therefore be made without electrical connections to the rotor. An induction motor's rotor can be either wound type or squirrel-cage type.   An induction motor can be squirrel cage motor or a wound rotor motor. In a wound rotor motor, the poles are actual windings, in a squirrel cage rotor there aren’t windings as such, but conductive bars, usually copper with a shorting ring on each e.

TURNS AND PHASES IN SQUIRREL CAGE WINDINGS INTRODUCTION The number of phases and the number of series turns per phase in the squirrel cage have been a source of speculation. It is important that the designer know these factors for any given cage in order that the reactance of the cage may be accurately predetermined.

Analytical. Such windings are used in wind generators or in doubly-fed variable speed configurations. Two-phase windings are given then special attention. Finally, squirrel cage winding mmfs are analysed.

This three phase winding is supplied by three phase ac supply. The three phases of the winding are connected either in star or delta depending upon which type of starting method is used. The squirrel cage motor is mostly started by star – delta stator and.

STATOR WINDING INTER-TURN SHORT-CIRCUIT MODELLING OF A SQUIRREL-CAGE INDUCTION MOTOR Taking into account stator winding inter-turn short-circuit, equations (1) have to be extended to the model of an IM Turns and phases in squirrel cage windings book faulty state.

Shorted parts of coil can be treated as an extra set of stator windings with zero-voltage vector on their Size: 1MB. In single-speed three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors with rated power above 3 kW, although the use of electronic soft-starters is increasing fast, the conventional star-delta starters are.

A three phase induction motor is a type of AC induction motors which operates on three phase supply as compared to the single phase induction motor where single phase supply is needed to operate it. The three phase supply current produces an electromagnetic field in the stator winding which leads to generate the torque in the rotor winding of three phase induction motor having magnetic field.

The stator of an induction motor is, in principle, the same as that of a synchronous motor or generator. It is made up of a number of stampings, which are slotted to receive the windings [Fig (a)]. The stator carries a 3-phase winding [Fig (b)] and is fed from a 3-phase.

If the turn insulation fails in a form-wound stator winding, the motor will likely fail in a few minutes. Thus the turn insulation is critical to the life of a motor. Low voltage tests on form-wound stators, such as inductance or inductive impedance tests, can detect if the turn insulation is shorted, but not if.

The squirrel-cage induction motor is by far the most common type of induction motor. The rotor is built of a stack of steel laminations, such as the one shown in figure 3.

The laminations are aligned and heat-shrunk onto the shaft, and then the molten aluminum is forced into the slots to form the squirrel-cage winding. • A wound rotor or slip ring motor has a 3-phase winding, similar to the stator winding.

The rotor winding terminals are connected to three slip rings which turn with the rotor. The slip rings/brushes allow external resistors to be connected in series with the winding.

Three Phase Supply Brush Stator Windings Rotor Windings Slip Rings Running. Standard Types of Squirrel Cage Motors. The three phase Squirrel cage induction motors are classified into 6 different standard types based on their electrical characteristics.

They are differentiated in the below table: Remarks: Class A: The squirrel cage rotor has relatively low resistance & reactance.

The general construction of the slots in the rotor is such that the rotor bars are placed close to the. Part-winding starting of the three-phase squirrel cage induction motor: air gap magnetic field analysis of turns arrangement of the phases in order to minimise the noise during starting and to.

Although most squirrel‐cage rotor windings are not insulated, they can fail due to various aging mechanisms, which can be thermal, electrical, or mechanical in nature.

Their susceptibility to failure is dependent on the type of winding construction, the motor application, operating duty, winding geometry, and the materials of construction. Diagnostics of Rotor and Stator Problems in Industrial Induction Motors by Fang Duan B.E.

(Telecommunication Engineering), Southwest Jiaotong University, China, Thesis submitted for the degree of Masters of Engineering Science in School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering The University of Adelaide, Australia August The squirrel cage winding of a synchronous machine will generally be smaller than for an induction machine of similar rating.

When the rotor is turning at the same speed as the stator's revolving magnetic field, no current is induced into the squirrel-cage windings and the windings will have no further effect on the operation of the synchronous motor at steady-state.

The really big squirrel-cage motors do sometimes use copper or brass for the bars but most motors use aluminum for the bars. In going back into some OLD books I have () I found my answer. A turn is one side of a coil embedded in the. We consider a three-phase squirrel cage induction motor. The motor is rated at 5 hp.

The parameters of the motor are listed in Table In this example the entire motor winding is represented. The inputs are the instantaneous voltages at the three terminals. The currents in the windings are unknown. The rotor is free to turn.

Electric generator - Electric generator - Stator windings: The maximum value of flux density in the air gap is limited by magnetic saturation in the stator and rotor iron, and is typically about one tesla (weber per square metre).
